A Place for Every Season.

Most of this coast is visited for eight weeks and forgotten for forty-four. That's the visitors' loss. The hillside at Ambelos has a different gift for every season — blossom, sea, harvest, snow — and the houses are open for all of them. Scroll through the year.

SPRING — Άνοιξη

The hillside in bloom, the mountains still white.

The grove floods with poppies and anemones while Chelmos keeps its snow into May — every view pairs blossom with white peaks. This is walking season: green gorges, running waterfalls, the Vouraikos trail, and the ancient theatre at Aigeira in soft light without a soul around. The brave swim in May. And if your dates can flex, come for Orthodox Easter — candlelit processions, the midnight Anastasi, lamb on Easter Sunday.

SUMMER — Καλοκαίρι

Sea mornings, shaded afternoons, village nights.

Summer runs on a simple rhythm: down to the water early — Akrata's long beach or a quieter cove along the coast — then back up the hill to the shade of the grove while the coast bakes. Ambelos sits high enough to catch the evening breeze the beach towns don't get. Swim in the sea, then try Lake Tsivlou for the strangest, best swim of your summer — fresh water, fir trees, mountain air. Nights belong to the terrace: long dinners, and on the 15th of August the whole of Greece celebrates — panigyria, music, and tables in village squares.

AUTUMN — Φθινόπωρο

The harvest season — the grove's whole year comes due.

The sea stays warm for swimming well into October while the hillside turns to work: first the vines and chestnuts in the mountain villages, then the olives. From late October the nets go down under our 150 trees, and the picking begins. Walking weather returns, Zarouchla's chestnut forests turn gold, and the light gets long and honeyed.

WINTER — Χειμώνας

Snow on the peaks, sun on the sea, a fire in the hearth.

Winter is the local secret: bright still days, every ridge of Roumeli sharp across the water, villages that belong to themselves. Ski at the Kalavryta centre on Chelmos in the morning and drink coffee by the Gulf in the afternoon. Ride the rack railway while the gorge's waterfalls actually run; visit the Cave of the Lakes when its stone basins fill; drive the Krathis valley to Zarouchla past a moody, mirror-still Tsivlou. The Stone House lights its fireplace. On January 6th, Epiphany, the priest throws the cross into the sea at Akrata and the village's boldest dive for it.
